On Oct. 7, 2023, the group Hamas led surprise attacks against Israel. Images from the Israeli-Hamas conflict continue to shock the world. In the wake of these attacks and this ongoing crisis, questions of how we got to this and where we go from here remain.
On Tuesday, Nov. 28, at 7 p.m. in Smith Hall Room 120, faculty experts from the Department of Political Science and International Relations will host a panel discussion to provide a variety of perspectives on the conflict and its impact on the region and the world. Moderated by Emma Smith Morris Professor and Acting Chair Alice Ba, the panel will be followed by an audience Q&A.
Panelists and topics include:● Associate Professor Daniel Green will connect past conflicts between Israel and Palestine to the events of the last few weeks, shining a light on key tactics on both sides of this current clash.● Professor Stuart Kaufman will examine how our personal feelings may sway our rationality in fully understanding the scope of the war and any crimes being committed.● Professor Muqtedar Khan will discuss the existing geopolitical ground that led to this conflict, painting a picture of the impact this may have on our world going forward.● Visiting Associate Professor Alice Verticelli will address the issue of forced migration and refugees in both historic and contemporary context.
The event is free and open to the public.
