Biography
With a background in international relations and
ten years of experience in global trade, I recently started a Ph.D.
program in political science at the University of Delaware to pivot to a
career in academia. I have two master's degrees—one in European studies
from Istanbul Bilgi University and another in international relations
from New York University. My recent research focused on the failed peace
process between the Turkish government and Kurdish insurgents in 2015.
I
have a variety of interests, in particular political violence (state
and non-state), civil conflicts, ethnic violence, religion and politics,
deradicalization of extremist groups, and the comparative analysis of
Islamist and ethno-nationalist movements. I am also interested in
examining why some conflicts remain unresolved for decades while others
are resolved more quickly or not at all.
Aside from my passion
for learning, teaching has been a great source of fulfillment for me. I
derive immense satisfaction from helping students reach their goals and
gain valuable skills that will serve them well. Teaching is not only an
excellent way for me to make a difference, but it's also incredibly
rewarding. I cherish watching my students grow and develop into
successful individuals.
I have lived and worked on three
continents — Asia, Europe and America — which has given me a unique
perspective on global issues. I am passionate about learning and
understanding different cultures, religions and societies worldwide.
I
love reading classic literature, going to the gym and exploring new
places in my free time. Nothing makes me happier than packing a bag,
jumping on a plane and discovering new places and foods with my wife!
