Alice D. Ba, PhD (University of Virginia, 2000) joined the Department in 2000. Her work on the international relations of East and Southeast Asia focuses on the structures and processes of regionalism and regional integration, cooperative regime building; and the asymmetric relations / strategies of smaller and major powers. Recent work has also addressed the role of strategic narratives and the changing conditions of regional cooperation in Asia. The author of (Re)Negotiating East and Southeast Asia:  Region, Regionalism, and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Stanford 2009), she has received U.S. Fulbright awards for work in Beijing and Singapore. She teaches courses on Southeast Asia's world relations and development, the international relations of Asia, Chinese foreign policy, and comparative regionalisms and served as director of Asian Studies at the University of Delaware from 2009-2014.
